A Day of Innovation: Young Engineers Workshop at HongDe

At HongDe Elementary, we believe in making learning exciting, interactive, and meaningful—and that is what happened at our Young Engineers STEM Workshop! Our Grade 3-6 students had the unique opportunity to explore engineering concepts through a hands-on experience that combined creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork.

What is the Young Engineers STEM Program?

The Young Engineers Study Programs are designed to cater to a wide range of cognitive abilities, allowing students of all learning levels to engage with engineering principles in a fun and accessible way. Whether students are building for the first time or refining their understanding of mechanics, the program encourages curiosity and creativity.

Bricks Challenge: Learning Through Play

The Bricks Challenge offers a dynamic learning experience where students:

• Build motorized models to understand classical mechanics. 🏗️
• Apply theoretical and practical knowledge in real-world scenarios. 🔧
• Work in pairs or individually to design, build, and improve their models. 🤝
• Engage in friendly competitions by upgrading their builds for enhanced performance. 🏆

By integrating mathematical and scientific concepts into engaging hands-on activities, students gain a deeper understanding of physics and mechanics while having a great time!

How the Workshop Works

Each session follows a structured learning approach that keeps students engaged:

🔹 Introduction & Overview: The session starts with an introduction to the day’s model and an explanation of key engineering concepts.

🔹 Storytime: Students connect with the subject through an interactive story, making complex ideas easier to grasp.

🔹 Play & Upgrade: Time to build! Using provided materials, students bring their ideas to life and even enhance their models for a fun challenge.

🔹 Lesson Summary: The session wraps up with a discussion on what they learned, reinforcing key principles and ensuring a solid understanding.

A Look at the HongDe Young Engineers Experience

Seeing our students fully engaged in problem-solving, designing, and experimenting was truly inspiring. Their curiosity and excitement filled the room as they constructed their motorized models and discovered the magic of engineering. Who knows? We might have some future engineers, inventors, and scientists in our midst!
