Virtue Education
At HongDe Elementary, we believe that virtues are the foundation of a strong character.
What is a Virtue?
Virtue is a universal behaviour recognized across different cultures and is essential for every child’s happiness and well-being. By learning and practicing virtues, students develop a moral compass that will guide them throughout their lives.
Our Virtue Education program integrates values into our everyday learning and school culture, helping students understand the importance of positive behaviour and personal growth.
Virtue of the Month
Each month, we highlight a specific virtue, such as courage, kindness, or respect, to help our students focus on developing these qualities. Through classroom activities, discussions, and school-wide assemblies, students explore what virtue means, why it matters, and how they can apply it in their daily lives. Our goal is to provide students with practical tools to embody these virtues, making them a natural part of their character.
Book of the Month
To deepen students’ understanding of the monthly virtue, we incorporate engaging literature that aligns with the theme. Carefully selected books provide relatable stories and examples that illustrate the month’s virtue in action, making it easier for students to connect with the concept. Through storytelling, students are inspired to reflect on the virtues and see how they can apply them in their own lives.
Monthly School Assembly
Our monthly assemblies bring the entire school community together to celebrate the virtue of the month. These gatherings provide a platform for students to showcase what they’ve learned, share stories, and participate in activities that reinforce the virtue. Assemblies also serve as a time for reflection and encouragement, reminding students of the positive impact their actions can have on themselves and others.
Virtue Awards
Each month, we recognize students who have demonstrated exceptional understanding and application of the featured virtue. Awards are given to those who consistently embody the month’s virtue, showing outstanding character in their interactions with peers, teachers, and the broader school community. This recognition not only celebrates individual achievements but also inspires others to strive toward virtuous behaviour.
