Museum of Vancouver: Field Trip for HongDe Students
A Day of Learning and Fun at the Museum of Vancouver
We recently had an exciting field trip to the Museum of Vancouver, where students immersed themselves in hands-on programs designed to educate, engage, and inspire. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the museum for organizing these enriching activities and fostering deeper connections with Vancouver’s communities and diverse histories.
At HongDe, we believe in the power of experiential learning, and this field trip provided the perfect opportunity for students of all abilities and ages to explore, learn, and grow. Each grade participated in specialized programs that made the day both fun and educational.
Lost Toys Adventure: Grades K-3
Our younger students in Grades K-3 enjoyed the “Lost Toys” program, a journey into the past that explored how toys and families evolved over time.
Students listened to the captivating story of Little Victoria and her lost doll, reflecting on changes across generations. They played with toys from various eras, discovering how toys reflect sustainability and environmental impact. The children even took on the role of archaeologists, uncovering toys similar to Victoria’s, connecting playtime with history and curiosity.
The Lost Toys program provided a creative way for students to explore sustainability while having fun and learning about the importance of cultural heritage.
Stories of Resilience and Reconciliation: Grades 4-6
Our Grades 4-6 students participated in an impactful program, exploring c̓əsnaʔəm: The City Before the City through an interactive scavenger hunt.
They learned about the impacts of colonization on the Musqueam First Nation and the community’s remarkable resilience. Through object-based learning, students examined how colonial practices influenced Indigenous traditions, languages, and cultures. The session also highlighted current efforts towards reconciliation, encouraging students to reflect on how they can contribute to fostering understanding and respect.
This program gave students a deeper appreciation of history, culture, and the importance of resilience and reconciliation.
A Day to Remember
Our field trip to the Museum of Vancouver was not just a day of exploration—it was a meaningful experience that deepened our students’ understanding of history, community, and the world around them. We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in such inspiring programs that promote curiosity, empathy, and learning.
We look forward to more enriching experiences like this one, where students can explore the world beyond the classroom, engage with history, and nurture a lifelong love for learning. Thank you again to the Museum of Vancouver for such an unforgettable day!
