Caring stewards of our educational community, the School Board at HongDe Elementary School is composed of dedicated individuals committed to ensuring the success and well-being of our students, staff, and families. With a shared vision for excellence, our board members provide strategic guidance, oversee governance, and collaborate closely with school leadership to uphold our values and fulfill our mission. Together, we work tirelessly to foster a supportive and enriching environment where every child can thrive and reach their full potential.

Valerie Overgaard, BEd (UBC), MA (UVic), PhD (SFU)

Valerie brings a wealth of experience in education, having served as an Associate Superintendent of Schools and District Principal for the Vancouver School Board. With a strong academic background including a Bachelor of Education from UBC, a Master of Arts from UVic, and a Doctorate from SFU, Valerie’s expertise in educational leadership and administration is invaluable to our board. Her dedication to fostering inclusive and innovative learning environments ensures that the needs of all students are met with excellence.

Marv Westrom, BEd, MEd, PhD (U of A)

Marv’s extensive academic background, including a Bachelor of Education, Master of Education, and Doctorate from the University of Alberta, coupled with his status as Professor Emeritus in the Faculty of Education at UBC, brings a depth of knowledge and insight to our board. His passion for research and pedagogy enriches our strategic planning processes and ensures that our educational programs are informed by the latest advancements in the field.

Patrick Zhao, MSc, Education Administrator

Patrick’s background in education administration, combined with his Master of Science degree, brings a unique perspective to our board. With a focus on data-driven decision-making and organizational management, Patrick plays a crucial role in guiding our school’s strategic initiatives and ensuring efficient operations that support student success.
