May 1st of every year is National School Principal Day, a perfect occasion for us to celebrate and introduce our new principal, Ms. Linda Spruston. We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Spruston to the HongDe Elementary family, bringing with her an impressive background and a deep commitment to educational excellence.

Meet Our Principal: Linda Spruston

Ms. Linda Spruston joins us with 35 years of experience as a teacher and principal in Burnaby. Her extensive career is marked by her dedication to student success and her expertise in various educational fields.

Experience and Expertise

Ms. Linda Spruston has an extensive background in education, marked by her roles as a literacy consultant for intermediate grades (4-7), where she developed innovative strategies to enhance students’ reading and writing skills. She has also worked as a consultant for students with a gifted designation, providing tailored support to help them reach their full potential. Her experience includes a secondment to the Ministry of Education, working with the Educational Technology Branch (ETC) and SET-B.C. (Special Education Technology), where she implemented and promoted assistive technologies for students with complex needs.

Additionally, Ms. Spruston spent 10 years as a sessional lecturer at UBC in the Faculty of Education, guiding future educators on effectively integrating technology into their classrooms.

She holds a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and a Master of Arts (MA) in Education, specializing in Special Education and Teaching, from the University of British Columbia (UBC). Her extensive experience as a school administrator in Burnaby further underscores her leadership skills and commitment to educational excellence.
